A terrific evening was recently enjoyed at the Avoca River Travellers Rest BBQ area when the Charlton Neighbourhood House arranged a fun evening specifically for men. With support from Buloke Shire, cook extraordinaire Ian Scott hosted the dozen participants with a friendly BBQ and drinks. Well-known around town for his cooking prowess, Ian gave some tips on preparing and serving the perfect steak. The ‘Steak with a mate’ concept aimed at bringing men together in a friendly social atmosphere to enjoy some banter, a meal and a few drinks.
Mateship is crucial for building strong, supportive relationships, fostering trust and collaboration. It encourages emotional well-being by providing a sense of belonging and loyalty. In challenging times, mateship offers strength, shared experiences, and mutual care. It strengthens communities and enhances resilience, making individuals feel valued and connected. With funding from Buloke Shire the evening could be made available free of charge which was much appreciated by all involved. “The Charlton Neighbourhood Houses’ regular Table for 12 cooking sessions at the North Central Trade School continued in April with popular local Robbie Spruhan hosting a fun filled evening of making Pasties. Well known around town for his wonderful pastry items, Robbie provided participants across a range of ages with all the necccersary ingredients and instructions to proceed and assemble 4 delicious pasties each. Abley assisted by Neville Cloak, the participants produced some terrific food that was sampled socially on the night, with the remainder being taken home to be enjoyed. All agreed it was a great evening and were keen to take part in future sessions.
The classes continue in May with winter Vegan Curries being hosted by Tessa Fitzpatrick, and Pad Thai with Kim Thompson in June. Book your place today through the Charlton Neighbourhood House to avoid disappointment.” Table for 12 was successfully relaunched after over 12 months of lockdown with Cocktail Making.
Carmel and Benno at the Vale of Avoca hosted the evening, which was voted 'delicious'. We are back to cooking at the North Central Trade Training Centre next month with Penny & Kim teaching some delicious vegetarian dishes popiahs and falafels. |
