Summer 2019
The second Saloon D’Art this Friday night 6th December at the beautiful Rex Theatre, is set to be a festive spectacular.
Kaylene Cossar President of the Charlton Neighbourhood House said “the House, Charlton Arts and Charlton Forum established the event as it was identified by a community arts and cultural workshop, there was a desire for showcasing local talents.
She said, “the first event was very exciting, with poetry readings, a beautiful oil painter and a performance from local Mick ‘Elvis’ Anderson, who had previously performed at Parkes Elvis Festival, along with Kate Berry the founder of OK Motels as the guest speaker.”
Kaylene stated,” This time we have a huge line-up and tremendous variety that will be appealing to all. Our feature artist is Darren Mills, who creates beautiful graphite sketches and pastels, along with abstract art often drawing on his experience as a game ranger in Africa for inspiration. Charlton College Art Teacher Natasha Saunders will be the guest speaker, showcasing the photographic exhibition ‘Streets of your town’, along with the music that inspired it and an explanation of the processes undertaken by the students. Bruce Gardner, owner of Timeless Treasures Tearooms and published poet will be reading; teenager Imogen Stewart will showcase her delightful voice; and Heidi Gibbeson will be entertaining us by singing and playing her guitar. Kyle Postlethwaite, who is studying music at Monash Uni will be playing a piece on his saxophone, accompanied by Rex pianist in residence Dana Czarski; and if that isn’t enough departing St. Joseph’s Parish priest Fr. Peter Jose’ will have the crowd dancing as he performs some Bollywood numbers.”
Saloon D’Art is held on the first Friday evening of each new season, commencing at 7.30pm. It is a free event, and everyone is most welcome.
Spring 2019
The inaugural Saloon D'Art was hosted at the Rex on the 6th September.
A collaborative effort between the Charlton Neighbourhood House along with Charlton Arts and the Charlton Forum, the gathering aims to showcase local talent across a broad spectrum of arts-related activities. Providing stimulating opportunities for art lovers to meet and converse, Saloon D'Art aims to inspire and develop the cultural environment for which Charlton is being recognised.
The crowd of 50 people enjoyed the festive atmosphere provided by the wonderful Rex Theatre. The crowd listened with much enthusiasm as Kate Berry from OK Motels spoke of her great passion for Charlton and why she chose to keep the event here. You could hear a pin drop as Pauline Brooks recited her poetry, by the time Mick ‘Elvis’ Anderson, had finished his set they were dancing in the aisles. The evening concluded with supper and a tour of works by local artist Debra Cleary.
